1) a fiberglas crate for each dog. You never know when camping if you need to confine you’re dog for safety reasons.
2) Dog bowls for food and water. Best is stainless steal because they clean up well.
3) basic first aid kit. Most products in a first aid kit for humans is the same for animals. Only thing you want to make sure you have is bandages that you could wrap there paw if the pads become cracked.
4) tough pads. This is a great product if you are going to hike around with you’re dogs. Its a sticky substance that you spray on you’re dogs foot and its acts as a sealant.
5) make sure all you’re leashes and collars are new and wont break.

J Camp answers:

Cook a few pieces of bacon in each skillet, pot, and pan every once in a while. After the grease has cooled but is still in a liquid form, coat the pan with the grease, drain off the excess but don’t wash it out.
Simply wipe it thoroughly clean with a few paper towels and store each one in a separate paper bag. Keep them in a reasonably dry place like a food
pantry or perhaps the cabinet where you keep your other pots and pans (think dry). Where ever you decide to keep them, give them a check peek every 2 or 3 months.

Walmart, Kmart for new stuff. Yard sales are your cheapest route. Coleman makes the best stoves for camping out there coolers, lanterns as well. If your planning an emergency preparedness kit plan one for as if you would be going camping. Include an advanced first aid kit, water filtration systems, and alternate communication devices like ham, frs/gmrs, or cb radio. Here is a check list for camping

Leave home any valuables or anything you’d hate it if you lost, was stolen, or got ruined from dirt or rain, unless you have a special case for it. One time my gf dropped her cell phone and we spent our trip retracing our foot steps staring at the ground and never did find it, also she blamed our friend’s friend without any proof.

Forget your cotton clothing, because if it rains or you fall in the creek, cotton takes too long to dry and you could end up getting hypothermia when it gets dark.

Going camping is a chance to get away from it all, so I’d never bring any “entertainment” except a book and a journal. No iPods or cell phones. And I’d never want to bother anyone else, so no radios, dogs, or firearms.

It might have more on it than what you need. I printed this out when my husband and I went camping for our anniversary a weekend in August. If you are cooking, you’ll need more.

We’ve never taken our kidlet who is 3. We will next year. We rented canoes and paddles through 7 lakes that were all connected. I was worried she’d get bored after 20 minutes. The park we went to is very kid friendly- big playground, a beach, and all the kids brought bikes or scooters.

What fun, your first camping trip. Think of things you have in your house or apartment, shelter (tent) comfortable bed (sleeping bag with a foam pad or inflatable one) clothes according to weather. If in hot weather, bring a long sleeve shirt and pants. It can get cool in the evenings, especially if you are wet from bing in a lake. Your food to fix, something to fix it in and lots of water. Don’t take any other beverage. You can get really dehydrated if you drink sodas. Sunscreen, personal toiletries and a first aid kit.

Get together with the other adults and decide what you want to eat. Freeze all meat products before leaving. Make ice blocks to keep food cold. Keep the cooler out of the sun. Make a second cooler for drinks that the kids can access.. Keep them out of he main food.

You can make anything that you make at home while camping, only it will taste3 better.

My favorite is Hamburger Helper Lasagna. Make it with Italinn sausage instead of ground beef to change the flavor. ( Use etra meat.)

what is the most portable air conditioning with minimal electricity needed for a camping trip?

I am planning a cross country (us) cycle/backpacking/camping trip for myself and my kids. I hope to set off in early June as soon as school is out. Two of them have autism (one of which is severely involved, the other high functioning) and the third will be two in april. So, i need something extremely lightweight, portable and able to run off nature as much as possible. this is not for a nightly basis but for extreme circumstances when the kids (and myself of course) will need some relief. this adventure will take us throughout the next year + through rugged and extreme conditions from time to time. We will also be cycling, myself and my 10yr-old son will be the only peddlers. My oldest is too severe (disabled) to assist and obviously the 2-yr-old can’t help much. so we have to minimize weight as much as possible but have enough supplies to keep us safe and healthy. I am contemplating a 600amp power pack to use for nightly computer logging, occasional heating, occasional cooling (undetermined unit so far), occasional movie watching (dvds on comp), and mp3 and track phone charging. This pack can be hooked to a solar pannel for charging during the days while we ride and the pack weighs about 30lbs (another small child), but it also includes am/fm radio, alarm clock, ac and dc outlets, some models even have air compressors. Obviously we will have the smabeginningpumps due to tire repairs and air matress needs but i thought for 30lbs this includes several items in one and can be charged with solar. it can also be charged with a cord when access to plug is available. The tent we’ve decided on is rather large (up to 8 peeps) for the 4 of us. We have quite the convoy of family chariot trikes and trailers assembled. I really want to have a cooling device for those exhausting days – which i’m sure we will have many of, especially in the beginning until our bodies adjust. No need to cool the entire tent but an area to create relief. Any advice on cooling and power units that meet these needs would be greatly appreciated.

What your looking for is called a swamp cooler fan. These type of fans circulate water through the system add mist to the airflow and cool you by evaporation they are boxy and heavy but require only simple voltage and power. A small 1000 watt generator would be more then enough to run one of these.

J Camp answers:

How about using the rope to tie some of them up with? Just kidding. How about tug of war? Knot tying. How about a battle with the noodles, with a few ground rules set up first. Make a self portrait and have others see if they can guess who is who. A ball toss competition, have the kids toss balls into a container and call it container basketball or have them use the bats as golf clubs and call it baseball golf, you could use cans for them to hit the balls into. How about a win, lose or draw type of game? How about blind folding them and developing trust, by having them follow a rope trail and not letting go of the rope? Just a few ideas. Over plan because often the activities don’t last as long as they could. Paper plate frisbee toss is fun, making paper airplanes and see who’s flies the farthest if fun too. Have fun and expect craziness, but that’s what the kids will remember.

Teaching Kids about guns?

A summer camp has contacted me about teaching kids how to use air rifles. Safety, responsibility, respect and concentration are all valuable lessons to be learned.
The kids will be 14-17. They will be on public assistance or working poor. They will be white, black and hispanic, probably some other ethnicities as well, but no distinct majority. They will be from a small city that has seen better days.
I have a budget of $500 for equipment and $250 for supplies, maybe a little more.
First and foremost, I was thinking a way to secure the guns. They have lockers, but I’d also add gun locks.

We’ll have 3 traps so three shooters can shoot at once:

Of course there will be fun stuff:

What do you think? The program has to be focused on safety, responsibility and marksmanship.
Thanks for your input.

J Camp answers:

Good idea. Interesting choices for guns, I like the variety. The age level is good. Younger kids at the camp? This gives them the incentive to return, as most boys and many girls will be HIGHLY interested in the program. Have the camp sort out the trouble makers from the good kids, so you don’t have any wise guys in your program. Another incentive to be good and participate. Good people participate in life and life can be fun, like target shooting. Bad people sit it out behind bars. No work and no fun.
These are probably the kids both liberals and conservatives will write off as losers. Perfect candidates for gangs, who will certainly teach them the WRONG info about guns.

Going camping away from baby (pumping question) 10pts. Already asked once but need more answers please!!!?

My fiance and I and a bunch of our friends are going camping for 4th of july weekend and my parents are babysitting my son. I breastfeed and supplement with formula. I have pumped enough milk for almost a week for him so thats not a problem. I’m just wondering if I really NEED to pump every 3 hours (about how often he eats) while I’m gone or can I just pump when I feel full. I’m wondering if it will greatly affect my supply, its just for 3 days. We’re going to be fishing and rafting and drinking and just having a really good time, so I don’t want to have to pump all the time, ya know….but if I need to I will….Let me know what you think, no negative answers please.

Also, They have wipes for cleaning your pump on the go….I’ve been planning this trip for like 6 months….Theres nothing wrong with taking a break for 3 days. All I wanted to know was if it would be fine to pump when full instead of on a schedule.<——Answer to anybody who says how am I gonna make pumping sanitary while camping because sombody said that last time I asked.

Also, last time I asked this somebody said i was “sad and selfish” for wanting to go camping and “leave my kid”. My son is very well taken care of and thats what I mean by negative answers. Theres nothing wrong with getting a break, this will be the first trip I have taken and I’ve never been away from him except for a few hours so…Thanks in advance for answers!
Okay, i KNOW I need to pump, but my question is, can I just wait until I get full in my boobs, or should I do it every 3 hours like when my kid eats!?!!? I KNOW I will get engorged if I don’t pump, lol…..duh.

J Camp answers:

Yay camping . I love camping
you dont have to pump every 3 hours , if you feel like you need to then go right a head and pump .
It may affect ur supply . But as soon as u get home back to your regular schedual ur supply will regulate its self and increase if needed .
Just an example … Im breast feeding morning and night , but if i was to start breast feeding again during the day ( instead of formula ) it would take me about 4 days to increase the amount of milk i produce for another 2 feeds a day .. Am i confusing ? Lol
also about the cleaning … Im guessing ur just going to be pumping and dumping while ur away … Coz u prolly wont be able to store the milk in a freezer … Sooo why does the pump have to be sanitized , just rinse it out and make sure it gets a good clean when ya get home .
And who ever sed about her drinking !! Durhh the kid isnt going to be there , so she doesnt have to make sure the milk is out of her system before she pumps ..
So yes its fine to pump when full and not on ur schedule.

What can I cook for 40 people while camping?

We are going camping with a group of about 40 people (27 adults & 14 kids under 10yrs old) and we are all taking turns making one meal for everyone (I am doing a dinner). I don’t know what to make. I was going to make Jambalaya rice with smoked sausage because it is cheap and easy, but there are about 30 people that don’t like spicy food. What ever I cook needs to be cooked on a camp stove (they have a big 4 burner one for everyone to use in the group). I also don’t want it to cost a lot since this trip is going to already cost around $700 for food, gas, campsite, and other supplies we need.

Oh and I am going to meet my fiancé’s dad for the first time and I want to impress him. No pressure at all right? =/

Things other people are already making:
Frito Pie/hot dogs
Carne Asada
Burgers and Dogs
BBQ beef sandwiches

J Camp answers:

If I was cooking for forty people, maybe less, considering that others are bringing food as well, and that sort of takes the strain off right? Maybe a little…Even so, I would go for the simplest thing possible. Here goes—-
Premade taco meat. It’s easy as pie. You can buy it that way in the store and heat it in pots over a stove or you can make it yourself with taco powder seasing, piece of cake. Then, all you need are some taco shells, hard and soft. No need to cook those at all. Basically all you have to do is make sure you’re heating meat for everyone. When one pot runs empty, you heat up some more. There is also premade chicken taco meat, they come in these yellow tubs…usually sold at Albertsons. Anyway, set up a table with a bucket of lettuce shreds and a bucket of shredded cheese, a platter or two of taco shells and your meats. You can buy your self a couple of those burner plate things, I don’t know what they are called, but they keep things warm. Just refill them when they are empty and thats the hardest part of your day. Right? If you really want to go all out to impress, you could get some sort of industrial size vat of salsa, LOL and then you’d be set.

In my experience, primitive sites do not have fire grates unless they are controlled by the government or state. And even then, there is a shot that you won’t have a grate. So the rule of the boy scouts is to be prepared. Take a small grill that you can use with firewood or with just charcoal.
Take charcoal with you as well as matches and lighter fluid. Some places do not allow you to bring firewood into the campsite for fear of bring critters into their forest preserve.

Plan each meal so that you have enough for the entire time. Pack stuff in Zip loc bags so that when your ice melts, you won’t lose the food.

Take a water-tote so you can carry water into your campsite.

Don’t forget a lantern and flashlight as well as tp and that’s not an Indian Tee Pee either. (toilet paper)

I suppose you should not forget your tent either.

Camping in Australia?

I would like to learn more about camping in Perth Australia. I am planning a trip there next year. What are the entrance fees like: Daly, weekly, monthly? Can one get around Perth easily by bicycle? Does anyone know any websites in Australia that sell camping equipment; Tents, sleeping bags, and supplies? This is to find out if it is cheaper to buy my own here in Canada, or pick these items up in Australia. Where are the best places to camp, Perth on the West Coast, or other places on the East Coast of Australia, by the way my age next year will be 60, I am retired and looking for adventure down under, any suggestions are appreciated, thank you.

Here is a link to one shop that sells camping goods:

http://www.camping-r-us.com.au/

You can google many more.

I would think it would be cheaper to buy in Australia, as the cost of excess baggage on the flight may be prohibitive and you can travel to Australia with less stuff to carry.

There are countless campsites in Australia and southern NSW is really nice for camping.

After Child Support to ex-wife, Should husband pay for extras?

Let me start by stating that my husband is a good father. He spends quality time with all his children (2 w/ex-wife & 2 w/me). He gets my 2 step-children on the weekends and has never canceled on picking them up, he’s never been late on child support, and he’s never been in arrears. Also, he drives an hour to pick them up and an hour to drop them off b/c it’s cheaper to live out of the city. She got the house when they divorced & we’re still in an apartment. And, this past summer, she claimed she had to take a trip & asked that he keep them the whole summer instead of the 1 month that’s outlined in the decree. He agreed b/c he wants his children at all costs & she kept the child support checks all summer. The point is that he’s a wonderful dad and not a deadbeat. His ex-wife petitioned the divorce b/c she claimed she married too young and wanted out. Now, recently his ex-wife has been asking him if he would agree to pay for camps, school supplies, dance classes, piano classes, etc. It never seems to stop. My question is: Should he pay for extras??? I’m starting to wonder if she’s using him or does she really need the help for the children. Mind you she makes more money than him. I don’t want to come off as the greedy step-mom, but, should he feel obligated to pay for extras or should she make ends with what he gives? Please no bias answers from mothers who don’t receive child support from their children’s fathers. Believe me, there are men out there who do their fatherly duties. His ex-wife just wanted out regardless that he’s a wonderful husband and provider.
Oh, we also pay for health insurance, which I’m sorry is pretty expensive. When I got married, I jthought that my hubby would just pay child support and health insurance. And, of course a car when they’re 16, college, & of course the weddings. But, piano lessons? He still should pay more?

J Camp answers:

I feel you pain…. My husband deals with the same crap, and sadly most the time we just give her the money to prevent her from being a bit**. But at some point you have to draw the line. I don’t think you should have to pay for “extras” on top of paying child support which I’m guessing is about 30% of his income (actually more when you count the health insurance he is providing). You guys also have a house to maintain for these children and many of the same expenses as the mother does.

You should check with your states statutes regarding extended visitation credits for when a child you are paying child support on is in your care for more than 27 consecutive days. In my state you can get 50% of the child support you paid back for these time periods. Allthough 50% seems pretty crappy, its better than getting nothing back and paying someone money when it is obviously not going towards your child. You too house them, clothe them, feed them and so forth. Go get what is rightfully yours.

I say our men need to put their foot down. The court calculated child support according to the law and child support is meant to help pay for those extras. My hubby doesn’t accept child support for his two children that live with us full time (their mothers act like it would burden them too much and its just easier to not deal with it), yet he pays out the ass for the one that lives with her mother and she continually asks for more. I think as soon as that gravy train tops throwing out money the requests will eventually stop.

J Camp answers:

Well i cant really answer any of these questions because they’re all based on your personal routine and such. If you shave your legs like everyday you’re going to need a lot of shaving cream, but if you shave once a week you won’t need as much. Also on clothes and stuff i would just count out each day and decide how many shirts and underwear you need a day (like you might want extras in case you spilled something or whatever) and for shorts and stuff i would suggest bringing enough to rotate… Not enough for everday… You can rewear shorts and pants as long as they’re not super dirty. Just go through your daily routine in your head and make a list of everything you need in a day.

Im going to be the dissent and say betsey johnson.

Steve madden shoes are so BORING, like you’ve seen them all before and you’d probably see the same shoe again at prices much more expensive and much cheaper, because EVERYONE’s making the same things.

Betsey johnson shoes are unique, playful, colorful. No-one else is making shoes as cute as hers (okay…some people are, but those shoes are much more expensive than the $100-200 range). If you wear betsey johnson shoes, you can rest assured that few other people will have the same style as yours, and that is to your gain because the shoes are that adorable. It’s also almost twice as expensive, but the quality and design make up for that, in my opinion

that being said, if you’re a staid conservative person, you’d better go with steve madden. If your youthful and flirty, i’d go with the betsey johnson.

I would like to take my two kids camping, for the first time, what should I bring other than a tent?

I have two kids, ages 8 and 9. I am a single mom. I bought a tent and would like to take them camping, but am unsure of the types of things I should bring. I know the basics, tent, blankets, first aid kit, food, insect repellent. But I’m looking to do this for as cheaply as possible. Here is what we have so far, blankets, pillows, tent, and even transportation to and from a camping site, we’ve got bottles to fill with water, and even some sparklers for fun. Any ideas? I’m sure I could come up with a list on my own, but I’d prefere to get suggestions from people who have already been there and done that. Thanks in advance
I’ve decided to go to a camp grounds, especially where it is our first time. I’d like to go for three days. It will cost me about 120 bucks {still looking for cheaper} So far all the suggesstions are awsome, and informative. I’m learning a great deal. I am also going to try to convince another adult to come to so that I can sit back and relax.

Camping with kids?

I’m taking my 3 kids camping this weekend with my parents, while hubby stays home (he has to work, and is NOT a camper!). I’m wondering what all I should pack for the kids to keep them busy & occupied. It’s a small private peice of land that was given hook up’s and what not that my dad’s boss owns. It’s not a traditional campground- no playground, no camp store, no basketball court, etc. It’s on a river, but it’s one that isn’t suitable for swimming (at least at that spot).

So, what should I take or pack for them? I have not taken them camping since I was pregnant with my youngest, and my middle child didn’t do well (he was only 2), so we have not done this before. My kids are 10, 7, and 4. Any idea’s?

Camping With The Kids Question???

My husband and i are taking the kids camping at his moms cottage, we figure it’ll do the kids some good to have the experiences of camping while being outdoors. Mt problem is this my mother in law lives on a small island so her home is surrounded by water so i am deathly afraid that my 4yr old son who is very defiant and very daring will leave the tent in the middle of the night and purhaps go into the lake and drown cause he can’t swim yet.
Would it be wrong of me to padlock the zipper from the inside while i’m in there to prevent this from happening or do you think he’ll be to afraid to leave the tent?
My husband thinks he’ll be fine but in our own apartment he tore out his screen and crawled out the window(basement apartment) and hopped on a city bus for 2 blocks before the driver brought him home.(the things kids do when they go to bed or when your not looking, sheesh)
what should i do? I’m really afraid and considering cancelling the trip because of this.
going to the bathroom isn’t a problem he is still wearing pullups to bed at night.

J Camp answers:

No. Don’t padlock the zipper. What if he has to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night? A better idea is for you to sleep in the tent with him perhaps with your sleeping bag in front of the door. That way if he wants to “sneak” out he won’t be able to because he will have to go through you first.

Should KIDS be allowed to take cell phones to camp?

Lately, there has been some controversy regarding certain camps in my community and their policies for parents and children. The current policy is that the kids attending the camp cannot bring cell phones, cameras and/or call their parents. The mission of the camp is to teach children independence and responsibility AWAY from their parents and the camp directors believe that if the children are in constant contact with their parents, it defeats the purpose of trying to foster independence from them.

Should the kids be allowed to take their cell phones and talk to their parents while at camp or not?? The camp is for 2 weeks and the ages of the children participating range between 8-18.

Personally, I would NEVER support a camp that would not allow minor children to contact their parents/guardians at any time of their stay. What do you think??

I agree with you. If the child is homesick, they should be able to talk to them, but really not bring their cell phones so they can call whenever you want… But i do agree that the children there need to learn how to be independent…. Without their parents. So yes i agree that they should not plus in some camps you can’t even get cell service so what’s the point?:!

How can i get a large group of hyper kids to take a nap?

Im helping this lady with a day camp…It’s made of mostly younger kids, 5-10 years old…We tried to have them take a nap today, but they were so hyper, and we didn’t know what to do to calm them down.. Well look, it’s not like we’re forcing them to go to sleep, we just want to do something to calm them down. We took a vote to see how many of them would like a time to nap throughout the week, and about 3/4 of them raised their hand.
My best friend always wants to take this kid with him everywhere. What should I do?

I am a 49 year old, single, straight male. My best friend is a 57 old, single gay male. I haven’t been in a relationship in about 2 years due to health and financial problems and my friend, I’ll call him “Dave” has not been in a relationship in over twenty years, not even really dated. Anyway, we have been good friends for about twenty years. We go to the movies, go to lunch, stuff like that. Dave is a pretty strange guy I have to say, a lot of weirdness about him. But I’m no picnic either, and have problems with depression, weight gain, etc, but I do like to date and get out when I am able-Dave does not though, he says he’s had it with the dating scene. Anyway, the thing is Dave has this think about boys. I know it sounds weird but he always likes to be friends with a little boy. I’ve seen him go through about three of them now, he starts out befriending them when they are about 7, 8 or 9, usually neighborhood kids, and then when they reach adolescence they usually don’t want to hang around with Dave anymore and he finds a new one. I’ve had a hard time dealing with this over the years because it just seems so weird. And I’ve told him that and so have his other friends (“in so many words”) over the years too that its just kind of strange. The problem is now Dave is friends with this kid I’ll call Bobby who is about 10. And whenever I try to plan something with Dave he automatically tries to include Bobby with whatever it is we are doing. Sometimes he even takes the kid camping but I won’t go because that just seems even too strange to me. As friends, we are all expected to be on board with this friendship that Dave has with Bobby, if you even mention it in a negative way he gets very defensive. He is vehemently against pedophiles, and I truly believe he has never touched one of these kids or ever would-but then I think I read somewhere that pedophiles are more emotionally about kids then they are physically, is that true? Who is the one with the problem? Me because I can’t accept hanging around Dave when this kid has to be around, or Dave because he always wants this kid around? The other think is too, Bobby has two sisters about the same age and Dave won’t take them anywhere. I mean, I know hey, maybe the guy just likes kids, but it seems so weird that its always boys he hangs around with and he will never take Bobby’s sisters anywhere and doesn’t want to be around them. Me, I really just don’t like kids that much I guess-I have gone to the park with Dave and Bobby before and it was kind of fun I guess, but really I prefer to be around adults. What should I do? Should I just be more accepting of Dave and his penchant for hanging around with kids or should I regard this as really just too weird and find new more normal friends?

J Camp answers:

No , no NO you should not be accepting of this! You obviously have a little doubt in your mind about why your friend wont take Bobby’s sisters out to play. Why does your friend only befriend little boys? That isnt right and the bell went off in my head too.

Where is this kid’s parents? I would be concerned for his safety. And yes pedophiles do almost want to have an emotional attachment to the child so he may seem like he is doing nice things for Bobby , taking him out to the park and whatever ,but why only male children? Why not Bobby’s sisters? You have to ask yourself these things.

Another thing you could try doing , is pretending I guess to be “interested” in children too , and see how your friend reacts. Like maybe you could falsely make a sexual suggestion involving the child and see how your friend reacts.

This is legitimately concerning, and I hope you do the right thing to get to the bottom of this whole child thing..OH and Im GLAD you’re there with the child to make sure nothing happens to that boy!

DO SOMETHING about this!

What was your worst camping experience?

What was your worst camping experience?
Hi. My husband and I decided to take 6 kids camping with us and 2 of them were mine. The rest were my nieces aged from 6-13. My kids Lizzy age 2 and Maddie age 4 and my nieces Alayna age 6, Nicole age 10, Jaymee age 11 and Britney age 13. I am 28 myself and my husband is 29. We decided since Alayna, Nicole and Jaymee haven’t seen Britney since 2009 (Britney moved, but shes moved back into the area) we would take them all camping, BAD IDEA. Well lets start from the begining, we were packing up for 1 weeks trip. All of that food, blankets, pillows, toys etc. We filled up 2 cars with all that stuff (we took 3 total). So we get all packed up and leave. Now Britney has never been camping before. As soon as we got up there Nicole, Jaymee and Britney went to the bathroom and complained about how dirty it was and was recording on the phone saying “the camp store is cleaner than those bathrooms”. Then they were talking in hillbilly voices (ANNOYING) and wouldnt shut up while me and my husband were trying to put up our trailer tent. They were singing very loudly with hillbilly voices. Then all the little kids were throwing fits because some couldnt sit by Britney and blah blah blah (They did this alot). Then they argued over who got the tenis racket (we only ahd 3) and the younger kids were screaming and crying because the older kids wouldnt give them turns. Then we let them take a walk on their own before dinner was ready (all together) and who-ever was the “brilliant one” and decided to teach the little kids to knock over port a pottys and chase golfcarts and it was raining too and i went to go look for them and they were going to the place where they tell you what activites there is to do that night (WE TOLD THEM BEFORE WHAT ACTIVITES THERE WAS) and i picked up the little kdis in my car there was no room for the big kids so i made them walk and (stalked them) to make sure they go back to the tent. Then we took them to the park and they were argueing over the teet or tot and my daughter got a splinter and it strated pouring it was horrible, Went back to the tent. Then Nicole wanted to sleep by Britneyy tonight (they stay upo and talk and giggle so NO). She has the biggest fit ever and cried and said “your not the boss of me” and “im not eating ” and “my mom made me come on this trip i didnt want to i hate you” and she called her mom and asked to be picked up (Her mom refused to drive because the campsite was 2 1/2 hours away and it was 7pm). So then we ate dinner and they went to the creek now my 2 year old daughter was scared to walk in the water and Jaymee was holding her and asked help from Nicole and Britney but they just left them and went up more in the creek, that irratated me. Then they went to roast marshmellows and burnt everyone of them ON PURPOSE (the older kids im talking about) so it was in the fire. I yelled at them. So theyw ent into the camper. There bed was being help up by 2 steel rods and they jumped ON PURPOSE (they know not too) and one cracked so we yelled at them. Then we went to bed from 9pm-12:30am they were up ALL NIGHT (dont ask why i have NO IDEA they woke me and my husband up, we didnt have any sleeping pills either) shaking the camper, bouncing up and down, making fart noises, whispering, laughing, getting in and out of the camper being OBNOXIOUS (the OLDER kids not the younger ones). Then at 4:30am Nicole was yelling “lets gather around the campfire and sing our campfire song” in a hillbilly voice. I yelled at them to go to bed and this is never happening again and were leaving tomorrow. I turned the TV off at 1:00am so they were doing this in pitch blackness. The little kids were asleep the whole time NOT US. We yelled at them constantly but they didnt care. So the next day we got the lil ones up at 6am and ate breakfast and went golfing (mini golfing) and i dont know why i wasted the 10$ on the older kids cuz they were being smarta$$es and using their hands (video recording it) and going on seperate courses cuz they didnt wanna wait for the lil ones. They said to me in a hillbilly voice “wasnt that a great game of golf arnt we the best golfers” Then we went past a sign that said have a beary good day and theyre like “aunt zoey r u having a beary good day” and saying beary after EVERYTHING they said. We told them to pick up the ground before we left they threw everything in the fire and video recorded it (That made me furious) so I told them to go to the car. They are the most disgustingest people ever. They didnt bring deodarent ON PURPOSE and lifted their arms up (they were sitting there for 45 minutes and doors wer shut) My car windows were foggy and oh my god we had to air out the car i made them leave all the doors open and sprayed them with febreeze for 10 minutes. Then Nicole lifted her arms up again while we were driving I yelled at her. We went home t

We were roughly 50 kilometers from the vehicle and over night the snow was knee deep and everything was soaked plus the tents all collapsed. It took 2 days to get out and we came across two grizzlies and an other couple black bear. Poor trip that was.

J Camp answers:

The key to success is obviously driving traffic — but not just any traffic, traffic from people who are looking to buy what you are selling. There are several aspects to online marketing that you can explore:

– Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
– Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
– Banner advertising
– Email marketing
– Viral marketing
– Affiliate marketing
– Cause-based marketing
– Ebay

Here are some examples of how each of these might work for you.

** Search Engine Optimization:
This is the cheapest (i.e. Free) way to drive traffic. It’s all about making sure that your web site gets crawled and catalogued by the big search engines, namely Yahoo! And Google. Then, when someone searches for “camping supplies” or “tents” your site will appear at or near the top of the list in the “natural” search results (the results that appear in the left-hand column). A big part of your success with SEO is not only the information people can see, but also the information that they cannot see – information that is embedded in the “meta-tags” (i.e. Information about your site) which is part of the html used to build and display your pages.

** Search Engine Marketing
This is where Yahoo! And Google make their money. It’s all about bidding for “key words” (i.e. Search terms like “camping supplies” and “tents”) so that when someone searches on those phrases, your site will appear at or near the top of the list of “sponsored” search results (the results that appear in the right-hand column). The way this works for both Yahoo! And Google is that you pay each time your ad is clicked. What you pay is determined by your bidding and the bidding behavior of competitors. If you’re just getting started, here’s where to go and a couple smart strategies.

http://www.google.com/intl/en/ads/

1) You might not want to buy the word “tent” – that’s very broad, lots of people might be bidding on it, and you’ll get a lot of unqualified clicks (i.e. People not looking to buy anything, but instead researching this, that, or the other thing about tents). Instead, consider buying “Coleman 6-man tent” or whatever product is appropriate. The point is that if someone knows enough to search on “Coleman 6-man tent,” then they are more likely to be intent on purchasing…chances are they are looking for the best deal or want to compare with other similar products. These are good leads and because the term is more specific, it’s probably searched less and cheaper to buy when bidding.

2) Make sure you’ve created an Excel model that shows you if you get x number of clicks per day, that will cost X dollars. Of those clicks, y people will buy and you’ll earn Y dollars. After subtracting your cost of goods sold, you’ll be left with X profit. If the return on investment (i.e. ROI) isn’t positive, adjust your keyword bidding. Likewise, make sure you have the budget to invest. This is a high stakes, high returns channel.

** Banner Advertising
These are the graphical ads you see all over the Internet. Probably not a good place for you to spend money unless you’re trying to build your brand. These display ads are more expensive and may not drive the type of traffic to your site that you’re looking for now unless you’re able to narrowly target the sites on which you advertise and have the resources to create attractive looking ads.

** Email Marketing
Content on your site or a regular newsletter is a good way of building a subscriber base that you can contact later regarding special offers or sales. You can also purchase email lists and there are many vendors who can help you manage this type of program. Again, forecast your ROI to determine if purchasing a list is a good investment…. X people receive the email, Y people open it, Z people click to your site, and P people purchase.

** Viral Marketing
Looks like you have some experience with that here – you promoted your site and got people talking and thinking about it. Good job. Consider doing the same sort of thing on camping blogs, message boards, or with other influencers who might be able to help you spread the word. Your suppliers might be able to help you here – obviously they have an interest in seeing you sell more goods.

** Affiliate Marketing
You may investigate whether there are affiliate marketers who can help you. These are typically a network of sites that drive traffic to your site and get paid a bounty either for clicks to your site, or sales generated from traffic they drove for you.

** Cause-based Marketing
Is there a cause that you might align yourself with such as a local wetland restoration project or environmental conservation group? Chances are that you have some mutually aligned interests in the great outdoors. You might be able to tap into their membership base, and they might appreciate the benefit you can offer their members for discounts. It’s a match made in heaven. (And, they could also help supply interesting and timely content for your newsletter. They have a special project, you have a sale on related goods to help them. Nice, huh?)

** Ebay
Books have been written about selling on eBay. This may be the only sales / advertising channel you need. You can get started for free, test and learn, and then explore becoming a “power seller.”

The great thing about the Internet is that it’s constantly evolving, so there are probably many more avenues to explore and variations on the things outlined here. This probably raises more questions for you, too, but hopefully it will help you get started thinking creatively about the exciting options you have to build your business. Good luck!

What supplies should I bring for my camping trip?

I intend to go camping next year, for multiple weeks, during winter in Mississippi (my home town), when it’s nice and cool out. I will mainly walk all day through the woods, and sit down and sleep at night, at a somewhat random spot. This means I’d sleep, eat, walk through, and be in unpredictable terrain- clear, grassy fields, muddy swamp areas, woodlands, etc. I will have a friend along with me. I was hoping someone could help me, I need to know what supplies would be important to bring. Example- what kind of sleeping supplies, what kind of food, and tools, and etc I should bring along with me. And, of course, consider emergency supplies, if something is to happen, and the trip takes longer than planned. I’d like to be fully prepped. And, if possible, can I order it online? I prefer to order online, but I could easily run down to Wal-Mart, or some other store. If I can order online, please do provide a link. In advance, I appreciate your help.
Also, once I am to wake up from sleeping, I intend to continue walking, and repeat the process, for around a week. Then stay a few days at one location that took a week or so to get to, then start to return. Again, that means I’ll sleep in unpredictable places.

Juanita and Keenan own a camping supply store and just put in an order for flashlights and sleeping bags. The number of flashlights ordered was five times the number of sleeping bags. The flashlights cost $12 each and the sleeping bags cost $45 each.
Please help me with this linear equation, i need a good example to follow off of. Please include all steps on how you completed this problem. Thank you.

J Camp answers:

Hi,
To solve this problem, use linear equations (like you said). We can make the number of flashlights “x” and the number of sleeping bags “y.” From here, we can create 2 equations. Since there are 5 times as many flashlights as sleeping bags, x = 5y. If lights are $12 and bags are $45, then 12x + 45y = 1785. Solve them now using process of substitution.

X = 5y
12x + 45y = 1785

Substitute the x in the second equation by 5y

12(5y) + 45y = 1785
60y + 45y = 1785
105y = 1785
y = 17

Put this value into the first equations

x = 5(17)
x = 85

Thus 85 Flashlights and 17 sleeping bags were ordered <==ANSWER

Hello. Actually i’m going beach camping soon too. This is some of what i’ve been thinking about:

* seasoned meat chicken or steak (given there will be a grill).
* baked potatoes (you can just put it on grill to warm up).
* corn (leave it on the green leaves as they are fast to cook on grill on it).
* wheat bread (sliced).
* smoked turkey, ham.
* lots of (non-perishable preferably) fruits
* yogurt, juices (orange, cranberry).
* coffee, green tea (coffee maker too).
* lots of gallon water.
* home made salad (as long as you prepare it at the last minute, you can just season it before eating it).
* any type of nuts you can snack on, etc.
* saltines (crackers can be served with cream cheese/jam).

Well, this is mostly what I think i’ll be taking (better be prepared than starve).:P i think this is not junk food at all.;)

enjoy your trip!

What type of food should I take camping?

I’m riding the C&O Canal from start to finish (185miles) in two days so I’ll be camping one night. What type of food is good for a trip like this? I always take dried fruit and granola bars but I’ll be needing a breakfast, lunch and dinner at some point. I will not have a camp stove, but fires are permitted in some of the camping areas. I’m looking for something pre-packaged, small, fairly yummy, can get stuffed in a pack and extremely to prepare.

Thanks for the help peoples!

The easy answers… MRE’s or freeze dried backpacker food packs will serve your needs with a minimum amount of space and weight. MRE can be bought at any surplus or amry/navy type store and require little for prep. They are around 2500 or more calories per pack and contain Entree/ side / snack/ drink mix/ tp/ spoon/ some have deserts too..
Some will come with a flameless chem heater to warm up the food, and just need a small amout or water to activate. In my area they are about 6 bucks each. A waring about MRE be sure to check manufacture dates and beware of storage methods used by the seller. They have a good shelf life but it is shortened drastically by storing in sunlight or pretty hot places.http://www.longlifefood.com/mre.html#Chart. For the freeze dried backpacker foods, they are very tasty compared to MRE’s but most require boiling water. Theye is a large selection of them out there. Some good brands are Mountain House, Backpackers pantry and if you can find it (mostly at REI) Mary Jane’s farm (organic and yummy).I personally avoid richmore as they dont taste as good and are not as easy to prepare (alot require at least 2 containers where the others I listed are all in the bag prep). If you need an easy and lightweight cheap stove do a google for soda can stoves, they are easy to make last for years and are very cheap to make.
Hope this helps.

What do 3 teenage girls take camping?

Me and my friends are 15 year old girls. My parents told me that in the summer they will take us camping and leave us there all day on our own, then come back at night. There’s a beach and everything but if we’re there for a few days on our own for several hours, we might get bored. Its an average campsite so there’s a bunch of trails to go on. But we’re gunna want to do more interesting things. If my parents are coming back at night, i think drinking and partying is out of the question. Any ideas?

What are good foods to take on long camping/road trips?

What are some good high protein/nutrient foods that I can take camping/on a long roadie that don’t require refrigeration. Nuts, some fruits, protein bars, canned mean/tuna? Any other ideas? Thanks

J Camp answers:

You ask a good question. It also sounds like you don’t like to cook very much and that’s ok, I don’t either.

For breakfast you can boil water for instant oatmeal, grits, cream-of-wheat, etc. Energy bars are good, but be sure they are high in carbs if you are going to be exerting yourself. Or, granola type bars if you’re going to jump in the car and take-off. It depends on how much exertion you are going to do. Fresh fruit is always good. Even dried fruit is good. Try to stay away from the candied fruit. Sugar will give you a high energy level and then drop you down like a ton of bricks if your not careful. I also see GORP in your future. You can by it pretty cheaply at Walmart/Sam’s.

You mentioned tuna and canned meats. Get the tuna and chicken in the foil pouches. They have most of the water squeezed out and are much neater than from the can. Lighter too. There are a lot of choices in canned meats. Spam is the most well known, but there are lots of others.

If you want mayonnaise, ketchup or mustard, get them in the little pouches like at the fast food restaurants. Don’t steal them, but save them up as you go. You can ask for some and who knows, they just might donate some to you.

Summer sausage doesn’t need to be refrigerated and jerky is good for snacks. Don’t forget the crackers and the little 2 inch square party breads are really good.

There is milk called UHT milk. This stands for ultra-high temperature milk. It is pasteurized at a higher temperature than our standard milk we buy in the coolers. It comes in pint size cartons and needs no refrigeration until opened. My experience is that the white milk has a slight burnt taste to it. I’ll use it for cooking. You may not mind the taste. The chocolate uht milk is good. The chocolate covers up the slight burnt flavor. The white milk is ok on cereal.

I could go on and on about this, but I think you get the idea. Your grocery store is full of ideas for food you can take that needs no refrigeration and give you a good diet.
